Collins is an escaped military convict, and is believed by the police to be one of the most daring prisoners who has come to their attention in years.Collins, however, does not cherish such high regard for the local bluocoats. “Why 1 thought the Frisco dicks were easy.” said Collide to a bunch of the local squad this morning, “but youse guys are nothing but a bunch of mutts. You guineas don’t know nothin'. You can't keep me here. You ain't wise enough to know yer business. 1 could give you some tips myself if I wasn’t so disgusted with you.”Collins was confronted with a remarkably good rogue's gallery likeness of himself. He was handcuffed, and two of the local “mutts held their hands ou their “gats. But Collins never turned a hair. “No. that ain’t me, he said, painfully bored by the manner of the cross-questioning. “You got I• •• •guess,” continued the prisoner, addressing Boldman. “but 1 could tell you where to get a sight more than that, but you don’t deserve it.” Collins left Fort Lawton January 1S with two other prisoners. A regiment of soldiers from the fort was turned out on their trail, but Collins and one of the others got away. The third man was shot down. Collins and his pa 1 swam four miles in the freezing water across Puget sound while the soldiers were beating the brush for them in the woods near the fort. They took a launch from an island near there and made good their escape.Detective Boldman lias been on Collins’ trail for two days. Twice the prisoner gave the sleuth the double-cross and got away when Boldman was within 20 feet of him. but last night Collins fell into a trap, thinking he was being arrested on a mere vagrancy charge. Boldman says Collins is the slickest crook he ever saw. A jimmy, a glass-cutter and a bunch of skeleton keys were taken from the prisoner’s clothing at the station lastnight.i
