EDMONTON (CP) — Financial aid to the Canadian entry in next month’s World Student Games is in danger of being withdrawn, says Lou Lefaive, president of Hockey Canada.Lefaive said Tuesday the program is jeopardized by universities which are reluctant to allow players on Hockey Canada grants to play for the Canadian team.Canada is to be represented by the University of Alberta, the defending national champions, although the team is to bebolstered by players from other universities. But two of the three universities expected to contribute athletes — Calgary and Saskatchewan — say they are unlikely to part with players if Canada West playoff posts are still at stake.Lefaive said that if other Canada West schools were to decide not to release players to compete for Canada, “it would certainly jeopardize our participation.”“We’d have to reconsider it, and I would have to say it would be very difficult for us.”
