GICC, CIC Falcons Capture Titles At ChinleCHINLK.AZ-After 6 days of last and exciting basketball action In Chinle, the Gallup Indian Community Center won first place in the men's division and the CIC Falcons won the women’s division.This annual basketball tournament was sponsored by the Chinle Wildcats Booster Club.Gallup Indian Community Center won the championship by defeating the Chinle Litre by a score of 104 to 72, behind the hot shooting of Melvin Tallman and Nardsse Hart who scored 27 and 26 points respectively. Fbr the losing Lites. Tsosie Brown had 27 points and Ernie Tbosie had 18 points.GICC had a 14 - 8 lead at the aid of the first quarter and a 47 - 31 lead at the halftime intermission. The GICC then coasted to an easy 104 • 72 victory.In the other champkn*ipgame, the women’s team from Catholic Indian Center bad in easy time winning by a score of 95 - 41 over the Packerettea’ team from Navajo, N.M.Julie Slmpaon had a game high 38 points for the CIC team. ate was followed by Nlta Sevens with 18 points. CIC came out playing their type of ball game as they had a 22 - 8 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 42-19 score at the half. In the second half, CIC continued to pour it on their opponent as they led 64 -25 at theendof the third period. The game was already out of reach for the Packerettee but they continued to play with an all out effort and loaing to me of the finest women teams in the Nation by a score of 95 • 41. Rosie Spencer had 16 points for the loaing team.In other tournament actions, the mm’s Navajo Pine teamwent home with the Third place trophy by defeating the Navajo Packers by a 75 - 70 margin. The women'* third pi see was won by the Ft. Defiance Bombers who edged out the Chinle Soccers by a 36 - 32 score.The other two games of the day was in the Consolation finals. The Baldwin’s Vols defeated the Cottcnwood Red ■kinE by a 78 - 71 score, and the women’s team from Gallup defeated the Zuni Eagiettes by 27 - 19 score „Individual trophies awarded to the First All Tournament team in the men's division were: Tsosie Brown - Chinle Liles, Mdvin Taliman - GICC.
