Do you recall that the game was played on Super Bowl Sunday in Angusville?That's how far you have to go back in the record books to find the last time the North Division won a North Central Hockey League all-star game. That is, until this year.For the first time since the 1981-82 season — there have been two ties — the North Division defeated the South Division in the annual classic, which this year was played in the Birtle Arena. After watching a 4-0 lead disappear the North all-stars played aled 4-2 after the first period but were tied with the South 5-5 after forty minutes of play.North Division starting net-minder Gerry Kilimnik representing the Russell Barley Kings was nothing short of brilliant in his two periods of action, despite allowing five goals. Stofan Klym of Angusville-Rossburn got the call at the start of third frame.Rollie Bunn of the SiouxValley Dakotas, who was the uth*.strong third period to earn a 9-7 win. ’ - ,Brian Glasman of the Fox-warren Falcons was named the North’s player of the game after scoring four goals, including .the winner. The slightly-built centre iceman also picked up an assist playing on a line with teammates Brad Bulbuck and Kirk Lyt-tle, who each scored a goal.Junior Fafard. Dan Lerr.oine and Martin Dupont, all of the St. Lazare Outlaws, also scored for the winners, whoSouth’s player of the game, and Allan Walker of the Miniota Night Hawks each scored twice for the South. William Daniel of the Kenton Cougars scored the prettiest goal of the night as he rushed down the ico with the puck. His initial shot was blocked by Kilimnik but his second effort in grabbing the rebound resulted in a goal. Other South scorers were Gary Findlay of the Shoal Lake Eagles and Rob Chalmers of the Dakotas.Netminder Daryl Me-Charles of Shoal Lake and Gord Paziuk of Miniota split the netminding chores. Paziuk kept the South in the game during the last half.Referee Frank Taylor of Minnedosa gave the North 8 of 15 minor penalties.NOTES— Bulbuck’s goal nth 28was into an empty net wil seconds left... Richard .Cooley, Doug and Kevin Hedley and Barry Kerfoot did not play for the North, while Frank Sioux and Stacy Pratt were not dressed for the South. Suspensions may be forthcoming... A good crowd was on hand at the Arena... Birtle did an excellent job of hosting the game, including a post-game reception for players and league executive... Labatt’s rep Cal Chute of Dauphin presented clocks to the players of the game, and hockey bags to the players of the week to date...
