Lincoln RollsTo 53-37 WinOver PioneersOREM—Lincoln High’* Golden Tigers took over the lead In the Alpine Division basketball race today, after knocking off previously unbeaten Lehi, 53-37, Friday night.It was the second straight league victory for the Bengals and the first loss for the Pioneer* against two victories.The Tigers won the game by breaking the bonds of Lehi’s full-court press in the second half to win going away. Carl Rowley, La-Rel Goulding, and Jimmy Pyne were the big guns In the Lincoln attack, with 18, 16 and 13 points, respectively.Lincoln gained an 11-6 first quarter lead on the fine shooting of Rowley and Pyne. Only the shooting of Boyd Watham kept the Pioneers in the game In the first period. He racked up six points In this period.Use Press In the second quarter, the Pioneers started employing their full-court press and held the Tigers to five points. In the meantime, the Pioneers came from behind and tied the score at 18-all just U | before the end of the first half. Both Lincoln and Lchl employed the full-court press In the third quarter and It was a wild and woolly period, as the two teams battled furiously for the lead.After the Pioneers got a three point lead early In the third quarter, the * Tigers started to roll, soon wiped out the advantage. Quick baskets by Pyne and Row- . ley gave Coach Evan Baugh's I charges a lead they never relin-l ■ qulshed. *'hsila•s:hridh-xtPyne was the real spark of the Tiger attack until he left the game on fouls with a minute to go In the third period. He was aided considerably by the fine play of Rowley and Goulding. Goulding did a sensational job of sweeping the bankboards.Pioneer Stan Boyd Watham, Russ Anderson and John Jolley were outstanding for the Pioneers.
