Elkins, which had lost to Morgantown by just six points earlier in the season, is now 2-10.Morgantown didn’t commit a turnover in the first period, as it raced out to an overwhelming 26-6 lead at the end of that initial quarter.Elkins reduced the lead to 28-14 early in the second period, but MHS then outscored the Tigers 18-2 to take a 46-16 lead with 2:27 remaining in the half. Morgantown’s biggest margin before the rest stop was 31 points at 48-17.Elkins outscored the Mohigans 17-10 in a sluggish third quarter, the only period of the game when Morgantown looked bad. John Goots’ bucket with 43 seconds remaining in the period trimmed the difference to 16 points at 58-42, as close as the Tigers could come.The Morgantown’s reserves played most of the final period, but the Mohigans still kept boosting their lead. The final margin was MHS’ biggest lead.All 15 players on Coach Clyde Green’s roster played, and 13 of themSPORTS SCHOOLSWest Virginia University in Morgantown and Marshall in Huntington are the only major sports colleges in West Virgir.ia.scored. Mike Bolyard's 23 points was tops for Morgantown while playmaker Kevin Claudio had 17 and Paul Roberts 14.Bob Stottlemyer had 15 and John Goots 13 to lead the Tigers.Although outrebounded 55-48, Morgantown took 27 more shots than Elkins, 85-58. Morgantown goaled on 42.3 per cent of their tries to 36.2 for the Tigers.The statistic which most clearlyshowed the difference in the teams was turnovers.
