Feb. 1st, in ifee Russell Memorial arenamNearly eighty boys are insolved in minor hockey in Russell, under the supervision of Coaches Jack Thom, Pee Wees: Jack Dow, Bantams, and Ken Munro. Midget and Juvenile. The teams are sponsored by local organizations through the Athletic Council. This council supervises die Pee Wee teams with financial akl from the Elks, Kiwanis, Legion and Chamber of Commerce. The Elks also assist in sponsoring the Bantams and the Legion, the Juveniles.A new addition this year is :he Broom ball league with two teams of boys, who are learn-1 ing to skate. These teams are named Tigers and “Lions ind they have become a popu-ar attraction at the rink. See them in action too on Feb .1st iThe minor hockey teamshave entries in the SnakeCreek league, Which takes in St. Laaare, Foxwarren, Bins-carth, Birtle Indian School and ftossbum-So]sgi r t h. In this league the Russell Pee Wee teamare the defending champs. Due to the extreme cold weather very few games have beenplayed, but the Bantams and Juveniles have each comethrough with wing.The minor hockey organization was set-up to give every boy a chance to play in supervised hockey and to participate in the fun hockey gives. Butboys need the encouragementof their parents, and the slogan of “Take your boy to the rink — don’t send him” holds true not only for Minor Hoc-'key Week, but for the whole season. We recognisesolicitude shown by representativesmajor hockey for theseyearyounger players, but also want to stress our appreciation of th organization which makes minor hockey possible here.
