Clippers placefourth at YorktonBrian Smith continues to be the big man for the Dauphin Clippers.Smith ' was their leading scorer at a weekend high school basketball tournament in Yorkton. Dauphin placed fourth overall in the event. i ^ ’ ■*** ;A high school team from Saskatoon beatone from Regina in the final 65-48. ^In girls’ action Dauphin won the consolation event in a four-team tournament atSelkirk. y In their first game the Clippers upset the host team Yorkton. Yorkton had won the tournament the past several years. Smith led the Clippers with 32 points as they beat Yorkton 79-74 in overtime. The score was tied 72-72 at the end of regulation play but the Dauphin team scored six quick points at the beginning of the overtime period and then held on to the leadto win.In their next game the Clippers’ shooting was off and they lost toSaskatoon 66-58, Smith again led Dauphin with22 points,That loss put them into a game to decidethird place in the tournament. The Clippers came up one point short, losing 68-67 to Weyborne to finish fourth overall.The girls’ team lost to Selkirk 67-60 in the opening game of their tournament. Selkirk, who went on to win the event, outplayed Dauphin for much of the first quarter. At one point in the earlv stages of the game they held a 19point lead,Dauphin started to get their act together in the second quarter narrowing the lead to 44-32 at the half but it wasn’t enough as Selkirk held on to the lead.Judy Balthus scored 19 points to lead the Clippers in the contest.In their second Dauphin defeated Murdoch McKay, of Winnipeg, 47-45. The Clippers ran into foul trouble and injuries in the ame but were able to old on for a two point victory.In games early in the week Dauphin played Roblin. Both games ended in lopsided scores as the boys’ team won 93-28 and the girls’ squad lost 42-21.•*
