Fitness awards to 9 studentsOwen .Olson, principal of West Junior High School, has announced that nine students have been presented Presidential Physical Fitness Awards as a result of last year's .physical fitness testing program.The award consists of a certificate bearing the President’s signature, the Presidential Seal, a congratulatory message and the recipient's name. In addition each student received an award emblem.In order to be eligible for the award boys and girls must score at or above the 85th percentile on all seven items of the AAHPER Youth Fitness Test. The - tests measure various components, of physical fitness.The awards were presented Dy the physical education instructors at West. — Miss Virginia Hicks and Mrs. Ellyn Stych.Three girls qualified for the award for* the1 second consecutive year and were awarded ; second-year badges. Presently sophomores at Muscatine High School, theyai e Connie Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Howell; Jean Lettenberger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lettenberger; and Becky Plummer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Plummer.Receiving first year awards are Jane Stark, also a Muscatine High School sophomore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Stark; Kim Anderson. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Anderson; Sue Curtis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Curtis; Jennifer Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Fox; Melissa Hart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hart; and Vicky Tomlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Tomlin.Four special achievement awards were presented to the following for achieving at or above 80th percentile on all of the tests; Linda Burr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Burr; Lesa Greenwald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Greenwald; LaVonhe Tilus, daughter of Mrs. Betty Duncan; and Debbie Wentzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wentzel.
