Search for the ideal outdoor girl la being conducted by the Maryland Outdoor Life Federation, aponaora of the 1939 Outdoor Life Show to be held in the Fifth Regiment Armory, Baltimore, next month.“Miss Outdoor Life” wilt officially open the ahow at the Fifth Regiment Armory on Feb. 17.While a student at the University of Maryland, Mlsa Tenney took up archery aa an extra-curricular activity. She graduated aeveral years ago and la now a teacher at the Hagerstown High School. I«nst June at the National Archery Tournament, she won the national title for the second year In succession.The Marylaud State Game and Fish Protective Association, the second oldest conservation organization in the United States, nominated Miss Bettle Rose Field, of Baltimore. During the summer mouths Miss Field spends most ofher time swimming and surf Ashing. In the spring and fall, however, she la an ardent horsewoman.According to Dr. Howard Kelly,chairman of the committee named to make the selection, the entire state will be scanned so the girl selected will bn an excellent example of the benefits that can be derived from enjoying outdoor recreation.In establishing the scale of points to be used in determining “Maryland’s Ideal Outdoor Girl,” emphasis has not been placed on beauty but rather on attributes developed by a desire for self-improvement and love of the out-of-doors.The scale of points upon which a selection will be made Is as follows:’Health and wholesomeness, 25 points; skill in a chosen sport or sports, 20 points; poise 20 points; beauty, 15 points; grace, 10 points; and charm, 10 points. *The committee to select a girl from Washington county for the title is composed of Henry Ayres, Sidney S. Bradford, John B. Ferguson and Mrs. John Paugborn.
