Pringle, National Council of Y.M.C.A., (Organizing Secretary).Bankers;—The Colonial Bank.Dear sir,—On September 1st of last year, His Excellency the Governor, (Sir Leslie Probyn, K.C.M.G.i, invited representatives of the West Indies, and of die English National Council of Y.M.C.A. to meet him at the Laugham Hotel, London, where he discussed with them the desirability of establishing the council’s work in the West Indies. The Hon. J. H. Phillipps moved;“That, this meeting of persons interested in the welfare of the British West Indies has heard, with pleasure, that the English National Council of Y.M.C.A. has determined to extend its work, on its well known non-sectarian and non-political lines, to the West Indie#, and cordially expressee its full sympathy with this intention, and pledges itself to further the enterprise to the best of it# ability.The meeting recommends this scheme for the welfare of the Colonies’ youths and young men, to all interested, and trusts and believes that the financial assistance nece«-ground that the Y.M.C.A. will direct-1ly serve the interests of the employing classes, by helping to make of the labourers of this island a better and more efficient type of men, that ■ the appeal is made to employers for assistance towards the estaUfiBk,Ir!IllITIr*sary to its success will readily be, furnished by the B.W.I.”Mr. A. J. Webb seconded the motion, which was supported by Sir Sydney Olivier, K.C.M.G., C.B., Mr. H . G. DeLisser, C . M . G., and others, and carried unanimously.2. In pursuance of this resolution, the National Council's representative is now in Jamaica, and an Advisory Council has been formed to guide and assist him in his pioneer work.3. The Advisory Council is now able to recommend a definite plan of operations in Jaamica. It proposes:(a) To establish a strong Y.M.C.A. in Kingston, to serve as the base of operations, and the model association in Jamaica.and the support of the Y Jamaica. '4. A very suitable and central property in Kingston lias been offered to the Advisory Council at a moderate price, and it appear# to the Council that this property should he purchased without delay, adapted to the requirements of the Y.M.C.A., and opened as soon as ever possible. This! would be the headquarters of the Y.M.C.A. for the whole island, and j from thia centre wouJd be organized and directed the work to be done in country districts, which work would be a chief object of the Y.M.C.A. in 1Jamaica. I ^The entire cost of this freeholdproperty, including alterations, renovations, furnishings and equipment, together with the running expense# for three years, is estimated at £3,032. The provision of two workers for up-country—salaries, passages, etc., bring the total estimated outlay, for three years, to £7,-832.5.
