THE SPORTING WORLD.Whatever may be said of other heavyweight pugilists, the fact cannot be denied that both Jeffries and Ruhlin have spotless reputations. Neither has been accused of indulging in fake fights, although there was a rumorJIM JEFFRIES.mrrent some time ago that Corbett was allowed to stay 20 rounds with the champion before the latter cut loose in earnest for a knockout. Those who know Jeffries intimately are positive, however, that his mill with Corbett was on the level and that he tried his best all the way. The clean records of Jeffries and Ruhlin, therefore, are responsible for the unusual amount of interest that is being manifested in their coming encounter.Although Jeffries and Ruhlin have fought before, they met when both men were novices in the art of boxing, whereas they are now both experienced ring generals, with good training and a fair knowledge of the tricks of the ring.
