Bobcats Trip Messiah For Eighth Win Of SeasonPaced by the driving of Kevin Murphy and the rebounding of Ned Era, Frostburg State College coasted to an 89-72 victory over Messiah College last night on the Bobcat hardwoods.Murphy, a sophomore, drove through Messiah’s defense for numerous buckets and three-point plays. He finished the night with 13 field goals and eight charity tosses for 33 ponils.FSC mounted a 15-point lead in the first half but had to settle for a 44-34 margin at the intermission. The Bobcats pulled out in front by 26 at one point and Coach Jim Crawley began substituling. Frostburg’s Bob Maddox, usually a high scorer, experienced foul trouble and drew his fifth personal early in ;the second half.ofdrhaCledpsCOshFrom the floor FSC posted a 52 percent shooting average, meshing 34 of 66 fielders, while Messiah converted 25 of 83 shots for 30 percent.John Kegarise paced Messiah’s scoring attack with four field goals and eight charity tosses for 16 points. John Spurrier added 12 and Ralph Brandt tallied 11.Era, a senior, hauled down 14 rebounds for the host school while his teammates accounted for 31 more. Messiah collected 42 rebounds.Hie Bobcats now own an 8-5 record and visit Towson State College next Saturday. Messiah dropped below the .500 mark with yesterday’s defeat, now holding a 5-« record.In the preliminary contest, thlt; Frostburg State freshmen squac overpowered Messiah’s frost 71-65.
