GOLF ARCHITECT GIVES TALKSTom Bendelow Gives Series of Lectures to Landscape GardenersTom Bendelow of Chicago, one of the foremost golf course architectsin the country* and who for twenty years was in charge of the A. G. Spaulding Golf Department, has just f completed a series of lectures to the j students in landscape gardening. jMr. Bendelow has designed about j S00 courses, including the first public courses that were laid out in this country. The last year shows a total of 43 courses that were laid. out by Mr. Bendelow. This shows the remarkable progress that golf is making in this country.Besides liis lectures, which included the history and development of the game of golf in this country, the general purinciples governing the designing of golf courses, and the modern tendencies in golf course design, he gave a criticism of about 25 designs that had been worked up by students.During his visit here Mr. Bendelow looked over the possibility of the fair ground track in Urbana for a ninehole golf course and found the propo- jsition very favorable.
