The Republican yesterday received the following communication from Mr, Gilmore:Chicago, Jan. 12, 1903. Sporting Editor, Davenport Republican,Davenport, Iowa.Dear Sir: You will confer a favoron me by issuing a challenge in your valuable paper on behalf of Art Simms of Akron, O.I am especially desirous of matching Simms with Adam Ryan, who showed most favorably before the American Athletic club of your city a few nights ago. The contest to take place before the said American club, with whom I am negotiating in hopes of securing thematch.I am prepared to arrange on any terms satisfactory to Ryan and as an additional inducement to close the match will make a side bet of any amount.Accompanying this challenge I wish to make a statement on behalf of Martin Duffy.
