Sports andSportsmen( hampion James J. Jeffries has now come to the front as a life saver. His training came at Ashnry Park. New Jersey. This resort is -near a life savins station, and the other morning a boat containing three men and a woman was about to be capsized, says the Cincinnati Enquirer, when the big boilermaker swam out and saved the party by holding the craft and its occupants until help arrived. This is not a “lost diamond advertisement, but the particulars of the heroic affair were telegraphed from New York by William A. Brady, manager of the champion. Jeffries is a great swimmer and oarsman, and spends much of his time on the water. After practically saving ; the lives of those in the frail craft, ne i is said to have refused to discuss the i matter, letting it pass out of his mind ;as though it were an every day occurrence.
