They host Michigan State Tuesday night.We panicked in those first five or six minutes, and we never did recover. It was our worst ball-handling game, and our shooting was terrible.”The Buckeyes, with Gary Bradds cashing 27 points and Dick Ricketts adding 21. cruised into a 9-4 lead, opened a 22-6 advantage with a string of 13 straight points and was out of range by halftime, 44-25.The Gophers hit only two baskets the first 11 minutes rtnd sank only 4 of their first 22 shot attempts. Minnesota shot 25 per cent from the field the first half, and wound up withonly 34 per cent. Ohio State shot 56 per cent, and held a 48-42 edge in rebounds.“That first half was our worst shooting all season,” Kundla moaned. But I give a lot ofcredit to Bradds and Rickets, and Ohio Sta'e played very fine defense. The Yellowjackets won their third straight league start Saturday night when they rapped Worthington JC.Cuff’s decision to change his lineup proved a good move. He put 6-6 Don Shirk at center, inserted Ed Hanson at forward for the first time with Big Mike Burke and t h e trio reponded with 37 points and complete control of the backboards.No one played better than Burke, who not only dominated the rebounding, but sparked the attack with 20 points. Guard Bruce Arthun followed with 17, including seven baskets in the first half, while both Shirk and Harry Musser added 12 apiece.Never in serious trouble after the first few minutes, the Blue Devils raced to a 54-36 halftime spread which enabled Cuff to use his reserves much of the time.Every member of the L2-mantrsquad tallied at least two points and it was Gary Hovland’s basket in the closing minute that enabled the Blue Devils to reach 100 points.The top scoring effort of the season was cinched when Lewis Lenz scored just before the final buzzer. Previousl, the Blue Devils defeated Owatonna Pillsbury, 101-49.While the Vikings never threatened seriously and at one time trailed bv as much as 32 points, guard Paul Ellweni claimed individual scoring honors with 29 points off nine field goals and 11 free throws.Twenty - one of Ellwein’s points came in the second half against the Blue Devil reserves. The only other Vikings in double figures were Glen Pfister, who had 12 and Gary Reinholz with 11.Rochester JC and Willmar JC continued to lead the title race by posting victories Saturday night.Jim Jones bagged 25 points and Tommy Turner 20 as Rochester JC tripped Worthington JC, 102-88.
