Town Topics....By SI’E HOWARDAs full of pageantry as a Currier and Ives print, the Aiken Hounds held their formal opening of the Drag Hunt season Saturday morning at “The Kennels.Repeating a local tradition thatftoriginated in 1914, tlie Drag Huntgot off to a good start with keen interest displayed and excellent attendance. The Hunt staff is composed of Mrs. Robert J. Harrington and Mrs. Northnip Knox, joint MFH and Bonnie Bomba and Steven Groat, honorary whipper-ins.The Aiken Drag Hunt is a sports event of the Aiken Hounds held every Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 10:30a.m. Thruxday the hounds are exercised. Around 50 riders were led by the masters of the hunt Saturday to the Kennels and at various vant* age points along the way s|cetntors viewed the event on horse unci on foot.At the gathering point, the houndsare kept close to tire master by the two whipper-ins. In day’s past, the whipper-ins were chosen from the Aiken Preparatory School and before the Fermata School for Girls was closed in the early forties, two students whipped for the hounds. The Drag Hunt finish stimulates the “kill”in the fox-hunt.Luncheon followed at the Henderson Hotel Saturday morning, marking the formal opening of the season. Mrs. Knox, joint MFH, gave a talk on “Hunting Manners pointing out many helpful tips on politeness in the field.Among those attending were: Mr. .and Mrs. Dude Frazier, Ginger Hollingsworth. Mrs. James Molony and Stewart and Shelia, Gene Snooks, Walter C. Newman, riding master at Sandhurst Stables, Mr. and Mrs. Fret! W right and son, Freddie. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fletcher and Martion Torehio and seven students of tile Aiken Preparatory School.
