DONSContinued from Page B2punter for the Dons who went on to play 16 seasons as an NFL quarterback, and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection.“He is probably the most successful quarterback to come through this school,” Bolton said. “There have been others who have had great success, but when you look at Randall, and what he achieved in the NFL, and his talents here, it's going to be hard to find somebody who is more worthy of it than Randall.“There are a lot of individuals who are maybe as worthy, but I don't think you’ll find somebody who put on a Dons' uniform who’s more worthy of induction than Randall Cunningham.''The other four who will be inducted later this month are former Dons’ baseball star and major league veteran Ryan Spilborghs, tennis great Alison Hardy and Peter and Gerd Jorda-no, who will join the Hall of Fame as members of the Special Achievement category. The Jordano’s have long been supporters of their alma mater, as well as several other organizations in and around Santa Barbara. The upcoming renovation project to historic Peabody Stadium is due, in large part, to the financial generosity and influence ofthe Jordano’s.“The Jordano’s were one of the first people contacted by the Foundation for Santa Barbara High in our effort to raise $5 million,” Becchio said. “We took Pete and Gerd on a tour of Peabody Stadium to show them what kind of condition the stadium was in, and they immediately, without hesitation, expressed their interest in being all in and to help in whatever way they could to make theproject happen.”Gerd Jordano was at Tuesday’s ceremonyannouncing the Hall of Fame, and received a round of applause upon being introduced.“We do it because our hearts are really in it. Mrs. Jordano said. “We love this school... and our memories here are just so fresh. We loved it here. We were here at different times and we didn't know each other (at the time), but to be able to support this high school, and now with this big Peabody Stadium campaign, it’s going to be so awesome.“We know how many people it’s going to benefit. The future students ofthe high school will benefit from this (renovation), and the community is going to be able to use it, also. There’s some sort of a program for that.“There’s something about this high school and its alumni, the passion that just lingers throughout their lives. Itstays. Even ifthey’re living out of town, they still have a passion for this school. It's special, and we feel so blessed to be a part of that special group.”Bolton said it’s been a passion of his and many others to have a Santa Barbara High Hall of Fame.“When John Becchio came in as the new principal and Joe Chenoweth as the new athletic director, we all went to lunch four years ago,” Bolton said. “I planted the idea with them. I said, ‘This group, we should do a Hall of Fame and this Ye Ole Gang should be part of this first class. They deserve it.’ “They would be in had there been a Hall of Fame already in existence. John Becchio came up to me this past year at the student-athlete banquet and said, ‘David, it’s time, let's do it.’”Tickets for the Dons Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Jan. 26 can be purchased bygoingtoyeolegang.com, or by calling the school at 966-9101, extension 5006.email: gfall(a newspress.comlt;■ ■ ■ •■ I . %TRIBUNE NEWS SERVICESFormer Santa Barbara High star Randall Cunningham runs for a touchdown against the Chicago Bears during a game in 1998.
