Santa Barbara High announces new athletics Hall of FameVIC NEUMANN NE WS PRESSYe Ole Gang president David Bolton, left, and Santa Barbara High principal John Becchio stand together at the podium on Tuesday at Santa Barbara High after announcing the school’s new athletics Hall of Fame, which will host an induction ceremony on Jan. 26.By GERRY FALLNEWS-PRESS SPORTS EDITORFor more than 40 years, Santa Baiiara High’s elite student-athletes have been honored by an organization called the Ye Ole Gang.Since its inception in 1974, the Ye Ole Gang — a group of former Dons’ athletes, coaches and students — have paid tribute to some of the very best who have donned a Dons' uniform.On Tuesday, in conjunction with the Ye Ole (Jang, Santa Barbara High officially introduced its Dons Athletics Hall of Fame.David Bolton, who is in his 16th year as Ye Ole Gang president, was joined by Santa Barbara principal John Becchio for Tuesday's official announcement at the school.“They've tried to start Hall of Fames in the past, but because of changes in administration and coaches, it never really took off, said Bolton, a 1981 graduate of Santa Barbara High and anAll-Channel League golfer for the Dons. “Individual teams have done Hall of fames of their own.“But it was the vision that we had as we looked at the Ye Ole Gang as we move into our (fifth decade), that this list of honorees in the Ye Ole Gang really is the Hall of Fame’s starting list.It's a group that includes Don Ford — a former NBA veteran who played five of his eight seasons with the Lakers — his sister Holly, a record-setting basketball player at the school, former Major League Baseball All-Star pitcher Jesse Orosco, and Joby Nunez, who was a found-ing member of the Ye Ole Gang.All of the student-athletes honored by the Ye Ole Gang in the past will be joined as Hall of Fame members by five new inductees on Jan. 26 in a ceremony at the Cabrillo Arts Pavilion.Among the five who will be honored is Randall Cunningham, a former quarterback andPlease see DONS on B3
