EaglesDefeat (oaldiggers Of Gary HI SchoolLocals Win 26 to 20, After Trailing At Half Time; Squad Goes To Play War This EveningThe Beckley Flying Eagles played their second game away from home last night and trimmed the Gary Coaldiggers, champions of the Southern West Virginia, High school conference last year, by the score of 26 to 20, the first win for the Van Metermen in three starts.While the Eagles were becoming accustomed to the Gary playing floor the home club jumped into the lead and held the advantage at the end of the first period 10-7. That margin was increased by one foul marker in the second period and the half ended 14-10.The second half had hardly started when Ceserato dropped in “two long field goals to tie the score. Having again gained an even place with the Coaldiggers, the Van Metermen fell into their best stride and completely shutout the home club in the third period and led 20 to 14 at the three-quarter distance. The 'ast period was devoted mainly to defensive play by the Eagles.Ceserato, clever Eagle forward, accounted for 14 of Beckley's points, five field goals and four fouls, before he w'as removed from the game by way of the personal foul route. However, little Alex George stepped into his place in the lineup and continued the scoring pace and marked up seven points in the short time he was in the game.
