Reversepowerplay?TORONTO (CP) — The Canadian Amateur' Hockey Association will be asked this week to turn over its power to govern international hockey affairs involving professional players to Gunther Sabetzki, president of the International Ice Hockey Federation, Alan Eagleson said Sunday. The IIHF has a bylaw that calls for the federation of the host country to sanction all international games, including those involving professionals,” Eagleson, Hockey Canada’s international negotiator, said in an interview. Under revisions to that bylaw, that power of sanction would move away from the CAHA and go to Sabetzki, a man both the CAHA and Hockey Canada can trust.”Eagleson and the CAHA have been feuding over which party controls these negotiation rights — particularly as they pertain to the proposed Canada Cup tournament in September.Sabetzki’s proposal was reached after extensive 1meetings with Hockey Can- 1 ada chairman Torrance 1 Wylie last week in Finland. CAHA president Gordon Renwick is expected to : take the proposal to the .lt; CAHA board this week. Two weeks ago, Hockey j Canada discussed applying for a second Canadian seat i on the HHF Congress to igain a say in international ' matters involving professionals. The CAHA holdsthe only Canadian seat.We didn’t necessarily ' want a seat, but our desire i was to get a say,” Wylie \said, Sabetzki is aware of i where we stand and we will know in a week or 10 days lt;if we have been successful : in making our point.”
