Mountaineer Tourney Opens FridayRESERVE -- Class B basketball a: us best will be stagedat the Reserve High gym Friday and Saturday in the Fifth Annual Mountaineer Invitational Basketball Tournament.Teams from Animas, Cliff, East Fork, Ariz., Hatch, Magdalena, Quemado, Reserve and Weed are entered In the two-day meet.Trophies will be awarded to firs^t, second and third places and the consolation winner. Also a sportsmanship trophy and atrophy for the best cheerieading group will be awarded* An all-tourney team will be selected arid an individual trophy presented to each player selected.The tourney will open at 1:30 p.m. Cliff will meet Weed, followed by Magdalena and East Fork at 3:10 p.m. The evening session will open on Friday with Hatch meeting Animas at 6:15 p.m. and the hJst Reserve squad oattling Quemado at 3p.m.The consolation game will bestaged at i: 15 p.m.Saturday, with the battle for third place starting at 7 p.m. The championship contest will start at 8:4^ p.m. SaturdayThe Magdalena Steers will be out to defend the tourney title they earned in 1968 tournament, but wili bf press ad by tough basketball teams such as the Hatch Valley five, a hot and cold shooting c:.iff crew and a Reserve teair that can turn on the .scoring power.Vol. LXX111—Section 2-Silver City, N M.-Thursday, Jan. 9. 1969
