Vernon on the ropes early and kept them there as the Warriors passed the century mark for the first time this season in a 104-84 explosion over Rend Lake.The Warriors scored first and after only four minutes of play held a twelve point, 15-3lead. WVC steadily increaseo the lead and at the half-way pot-nt of the first half led 31.16. The Warriors showed no sign of slowing down and with two minutes left to play in the first half, had increased their lead to 24 points, 57-33. As the first half ended, the Warriors still held a 24 point advantage and were well on their way toward the 100 mark as the score stood 61-37.Mid-way through the second half of play, WVC had increased the lead still more to 26 points and led 80-54. The Warriors reached the hundred mark with one and one-half minutes of play remaining.Don Diver, 5-10, freshman guard from St. Francisvllle, pac-ed the Warrior attack with 17 points on five field goals and seven free throws. Bob John.uerdesOkson, 6-1 guard from Norris City, 111., was next with five field goals and five free throws for 15 points. Jerry Scott, 6-1 forward, had 14 points on 6 and 2.. Other Warriors lndoub-le figures were Jerry Nuckol-Is with 12 and David Hart with 10.Rend Lake’s Johnson led all scorers with 25 points on eight field goals and nine free throws. Burzynski had 19 points and Morgan had 14 to lead the Rend Lake effort.The Warriors connected on 38 of 58 field goals attempts for a .559 from the field. The Warriors were deadly from the free throw line making good on 28 of 32 attempts for a sizzl-ing .877.The Warriors are now 5-4 for the season. They will take on the Lakeland Lakers in a home game next Thursday night, January 11, in the annual Home-coming game.
