Tarnado DefeatsMechanicsburg 'S'Last Night, 53-45The Waynesboro-Mont Alto Blue apd Gold Tornado swept the Me-chaniqsburg Wildcats aside last night* 53-45, to climax a perfect day for the three WAMA court squads.Paced by towering Tom Cross who bucketed 33 poihts, the Tor-, nado roared into the lead late in the first period and was never a-gain; headed.A near capacity crowd here watched the Tornadomen snap a three-game losing streak and move into iflrst division contention in the Sout.h Penn Conference.UTtLE TORNADO WINSDeive Rhone's Little Tornado sup plied the day’s anti-climax with a 38*34 victory over the Wildcat jay ,vees,. The WAMA jayvees are now, batting .500, with a 3*3 log.The Wildcats, coached by Tom Yosf, drew first blood on Don Getz’s charity toss. The score seesawed for the first six minutes then Bespectacled Larry Provard swished the net from mid-court. Here the Tornado took the lead and finished the first period with an 11-9 profit.With Cross hitting 19 points through the first half, the charges of Coach Harry Pure left tire court at halftime with a 10-point margin.The Wildcat mentor had 200 pound Bud Kohlhaas, Don Kauffman and Bob Enck endeavoring to box Tom Cross under the Tornado board and cut off the Blue and Gold's scoring power. Cross drew 12 foul tosses and he cashed’ in with seven conversions.LIMITED TO 2 POINTSOnce again the Tornado slipped inth a weave pattern in the third period, drawing Cross to the perimeter of the Wildcat’s zone defense reducing the effectiveness of the offedse. The Tornado gained only two points in the period.Before the Tornado’s offense could regain its second period momentum Mechanicsburg had reduced their deficit.In posting 33 points, Cross hit 13 of 17 shots from the field and seven for 12 from the free throw line.The Tornado hit 18 of its 42 shots while Mechanicsburg had 13 for 31,HANDLE FLOR GAMEWith Cross blanketed by three Wildcats Don Shade and Joe Car* on assumed some of the board chores.
