JONES, r'j| CROSSCOUNTRY CAPTAINHAS A REMARKABLE RECORDis Holder of World’s Amateur One-Mile and of Intercollegiate Half-Mile Records—Ran on World'* Championship Four-Mile Relay Team.At a meeting of the Varsity crosscountry championship team at Robinsons studio yesterday, John Paul Jones, ’13, of Washington, D, C,, was elected captain of the 1912 seven.Jones prepared at Exeter. During his freshman year at Cornell he captained the 1913 track team, won the cross country cup, the mile in the underclass games and the half-mile in the Cornell-Pennsylvania freshman track meet. On November 12, 1919.■IJ. P. Jones, ’la.he was the first man to cross the line in the intercollegiate cross country championship run at Princeton, N. J. In October of that year lie finished first in the dual run with Pennsylvania. • [ yJones was the last runner on the four mile relay team that set a world’s record both indoor and outdoor for the distance and later won the mile event in the Pennsylvania and Princeton spring dual meets. In the Intercollegiate track championship games at Cambridge he established a new world's amateur record for the one mile run when he clipped one-fifth of a second from Coueff’s mark of 4:15 3-5 seconds, wiiich had stood since August 28, 1895. On the same day he set a new Intercollegiate record for the half mite, running the distance in 1:54 4.5 seconds, umhu V kSThis fall, Jones finished second to Berna in the Pennsylvania dual cross country run at Philadelphia, and two weeks later scored his second consecutive victory in the championship event at Brookline, Mass.He !a a member of Chi Phi, Alepb Samach, Cimei, Majura, and Duns-tan. __v»T-,.X- ♦ , '
