Steve Reid joins Mav grid staffSteve Reid, who coached the junior varsity and special teams for former TCU head coach Jim Shofner this past season, has beer hired as defensive coordinator at UTA, it was announced recently.Reid replaces Cal Rei-mer, who resigned last month to seek a teaching position at UTA.“We’re fortunate to get a coach like Steve,’’ said UTA head coach Bud Elliott. “He has an excellent high school coaching background and his stint at TCU added to his experience on the college lever”Reid was head coach at Burleson in 1975 before joining the TCU staff. Under Reid, the TCU junior varsity posted a 3-1-1 record in 1976 with victories over UTA, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.A native of Mississippi, Reid was graduated fromTexas AM. He began his coaching career at Mineral Wells Junior High in 1963, and also coached at Fort Worth Masonic Home for two seasons, Aledo for five, Jacksboro for two years and a year at Burleson.A Marine Corp veteran, Reid served as director of the Texas High School Coaches’ Association. He compliled a 92-36-1 record as a high school head coach with seven district championships.
