State Quintet Holds MountKent State College’s rejuvenated basketball team met the state champion Mount Union five at Wills gymnasium and though taking the small end of a 37 to 24 score, acquitted themselves nicely.The contest was played before a large crowd, the seating capacity of the gymnasium being taxed to the limit. The visitors proved to be a good attraction, many spectators coming from Ravenna, Cuyahoga Falls and other nearby points.While both teams showed flashes of speed at times, the game as a whole was not as fast as many had expected. In fact the visitors seemed to take things rather easy, exerting themselves only when their lead was threatened. In the latter half many substitutions were made.State started the scoring, but soon lost the lead. The first half was nip and tuck, ending 9-5 in Mount’s favor. Thereafter Mount pulled further ahead and was not threatened.Coach Wagonef has a good team and it is one that will be heard from before the season is over. In Center Arnold it has a man that will hold his own anywhere. Arnold gave the redoubtable Lefty Miller all he wanted to do. Shedden and Curtiss also did well for State.
