Davis / Executive Sports EditorFigure on seeing Phil Gordon decked out in his Ohio State gear this week.“Go Buckeyes!’’ is probably what the former Ruston High baseballer is yelling at this very moment, in the aftermath of the school’s thrilling 31-24 victory over Miami in Friday night’s Fiesta Bowl.It marked the fourth national championship in Ohio State history and their first in 34 years, the last time being in 1968 when the late Woody Hayes guided the Buckeyes to the pinnacle of the college game.Gordon, arguably the most avid Buckeye fan in Ruston (although Louisiana Tech assistant coach Randy Bates and wife Traci, both OSU grads, give him a pretty good run for his money), is surely still giddy and excited about what may become known as the most exciting college game in history.“I didn’t go to sleep until 3 this morning, Gordon gushed Saturday. “I couldn’t have taken a third overtime.”As it was, he and a whole lot of other fans glued to their television sets late Friday night probably had to need a transfusion to make it through two OTs.Freshman running back Maurice Clarett ran five yards for the winning touchdown and then the Buckeyes’ tenacious defense held the Hurricanes back for a final try.
