FiGHT FANS PAID$650,000 TO SEENEW YORK BOUTSNew York, Jan. 4.—.Despite the cry of hard times, boxing- has stood up •wonderfully, as evidenced by *the returns made to the State Athletic Com-which controls and directsmission,the sport of this state.Thirty-one new clubs have been licensed by the State Athletic Commission during the past year, making a /total of 132 licenses issued altogether since the commission started operations. Of this number many have given up the business, while others have been closed or had their licenses cancelled by the commission; until at the .present time, there are about 58 clubs operating in this state.In the past year the total reeeiptsof the clubs have been approximately $650,000, of which the state received afive per cent, revenue amounting to about $32,000.The Broadway Sporting club of Brooklyn will stage the leading boxing attraction of the week, when Jim Flynn, the Pueblo fireman, and A1 Reich, the promising local heavy-••aig-ht, will tomorrow night box ten *«anlt;te. Algonquin and theBridgeport clubs entered in the race.Th^ various teams were named Saturday night at a meeting at which Thad Adams appeared for the Seasides, Henry Osborne for the ' Algon-quins and Dick Howell for the Bridge-ports. The games will be played on Tuesday ‘ and Friday nights throughout the season.The clubs have prepared for the tournament by purchasing new/ cloths for the tables and getting new balls.
