Joe Weremy and John Doucette are both expected to be in the two day tournamentMany top stars will also be in Peace River for the first place money of 500 dollars. Some ofthese are Mel Watchom Pat Friedel and Jim Fox of Fairview, Dale and Ray Stokke ol the Grande Prairie Athletics, Jerry Walker of the Beaver-lodge Royals, young Vic Tardiff of the Nampa Leths and many others.With the Twelve Foot Davis Stadium sporting bright green grass in the outfield and with a brilliant eight team selection fighting for the 500 dollars, many believe that this.year’s tournament will draw an ail time record crowd.Be sure to make plans to be at the ball park this weekend.OUR CONGRATULATIONS GO out to the Fort St John Oldstylers and the Grimshaw Huskies who took first place honors at the Peace River and District Mens Fastball Tournament on the weekend. The Fort St John club defeated the Jones Esso Tigers from Peace River 7-4 in the “AM event final and in the“B” event final the Grimshaw Huskies trounced the Atkinson PlumbiM Good Guys 17-7.The entire Peace River and District Fastball League must be congratulated for a very fine all around tournament and with a total 24 games played, every ball fan got their money's worth.NO DOUBT THE OUTSTANDING individual performance of the entire tournament was the fine pitching performance of young Brian Honke of the Esso Tigers.Brian sidelined the Travellers Motor Hotel club on Saturday with a no hitter and then followed up with a nifty one hitter against the Imperial Lumber crew from Grande Prairie.All in all Brian pitched a total of some 26 innings in the two day tournament and had to give way to Don Lowe in the final game against the Fort St John Oldstylers because of a blister that developed on his fingers of his pitching hand.Another ball player who showed up with great pitching performances was Rod Berg of the Fort St John Club. Rod is no stranger to Peace River ball fans as he was a standout performer with the Hythe Mustangs Hockey club last winter.
