The beginning of this month, Come: foldiers and failors attending the games at Stoke Town, near Plymouth, quarrelled about a wreftling match between a failorand one of the royal artificers* Boxing began the riot, and for lome time the foldiers werg vi£torious; but the failors acquiring more ftrength, returned to Dock, and a moll /hocking battle began with bludgeons, bayonets, pokers, c. After a dreadful confli£? for fome hours, many of each party were left for dead ; hut, by ^e activity of Captain Paffingham, of the 38th regiment, who took the main guard from the lines, and paraded the town under arms, taking into cuftody every foldier found out of the barracks, the riot was at length quelled. There were killed by the failors one artificer, and two wounded; and by the artificers, one failor killed, and five wounded.
