Banquet Tonight to Honora mforSeven Top Longhorn Teamsnnt-ie10 h !Lettermen and coaches of all sports at the University get together tonight in the annual athletic banquet, sponsored by the Ex-Students’ Association.The get-together, to include a talk by University Chancellor James P. Hart and a “concert” by the Hill Hallbillies, will begin in the Texas Union at 6:30.Special tribute will be paid to Johnston Blair Cherry, the quiet-spoken former Longhorn football coach. Mr. Cherry, after leading the ’Horns into three of the nation’s major bowls in four seasons,o9 | 0resigned Jan. 1 to enter private business.Bully Gilstrap will act as toastmaster at the banquet, which will give special acclaim to seven top athletic teams—Texas’ mightyfootball eleven, the national champion Steer baseball squad, the Southwest Conference champion i swinmming team, Clyde Littlefield’s conference track champs, the tennis and golf squads, and the 1950-51 Texas Longhorn basketball team.Besides the 24 coaches, the football squad, and lettermen in the other six sports, the Ex-Students’5 IState Tourney Draws 24 Best Cage Fivesvade Austin this week end, looking for three state championship trophies to be awarded Saturday night.For three davs—Thursday, Fri-Twenty-four of Texas’ finest j City’s Gregory Gym will rock to high school basketball squads in-j the cheers of basketball fans asthe cream of the crop, the eight best teams in each division—AA, A, and B get together.Seven veterans of the 1950 tournament art* hack.
