That game will be a rematch of a Jan. 7 game won by Napoleon, 58-38. vBRYAN, REACHING THE sectional finals for the second straight year, recorded its second consecutive season of beating the Apaches twice during the regular season and once in sectionals. The Golden Bears, now 15-6 overall and winners of their last nine games, allowed Fairview' just four third-quarter points. Fairview finishes its season at 10-11.“I thought in the third quarter we played real good defense. They only had 26 points at the end of the quarter,” said Krill.Tied 22-22 at halftime, Bryan jumped to a 26-22 advantage but Fairview baskets by Ken Boland and Joe Leithauser tied the scored at 26-26 with 4:58 left. Chris Daugherty hit three baskets and Joe Roebuck tallied two free throws for Bryan as Fairview was held scoreless the remaining 4.58 of the quarter. In the last 4:58, Fairview missed its six field goal attempts and committed two turnovers. The whole key to the Apaches’ drought was their inability to get the ball to leading scorer Tim Shininger. The 6-2 senior, who scored 11 of Fairview’s 22 first-half points, only attempted one shot in the third quarter.‘I JUST TOLD the kids at halftime to play good defense and not for the steals on Shininger,” explained Krill. “We wanted to make him shoot the jump shot ” Fairview coach Ralph Ruffer, in acknowledging the 21-point effort of Shininger, wondered when the rest of his team was going to get into the offensive act.“Look at all our other offensive players (five players who accounted for 18 points). Except for Ken Bo land, maybe...” said Ruffer “One-and-a-half kids can’t carry the load.” Boland and Shininger combined for 28 points.Behind the 10-point Shininger effort in the fourth quarter, Fairview was able to make one last run. With Bryan leading 40-30 with 5:57 left, Ray Boes started the Apaches’ raid with an inside hoop that made the score 40-32 with 5:04 left. Two free throws by Shininger were countered by Guy Alexander’s basket, making the score 42-34. However, two more free throws by Shininger. a layup by Joe Lucas and a 10-footer by Shininger cut the lead to 42-40 with 2:51 left.Three Bryan free throws gave the Bears a 45-40 lead, and two additional Daugherty charity tosses(Page 20, column 2, please)☆ ☆☆af■BOX SCORESFirst Game *TINORA (65) — McCague6 3 15; Harris 10 4 24, Schafer 1 2 4; BrownleeO *0 0; Norden 3 2 8; Ricica 1 0 2; Brad Meyer 2 0 4; Gares 1 0 2; Sheibley 1 4 *6, Brett Meyer 0 0 0; Keber 0 0 0.
