Cross Sets Another New Mark: Tornado Loses 51-42Hershey High School’s Trojans made a clean sweep of the second half card in the South Penn Conference race last night topping a scrappy Waynesboro-^Iont Alto Tornado 51-42 in the loop finale on the Hershey floor.Tom Cross, 6:07 Tornado pivot, set his second South Penn Conference record of the season last night.He converted seven of his nine charity tosses for a season’s total of 87. The record was previously held Jointly by Gaspari of Hershey and Norm Schue of Hanover. The mark was 82. .With 2:45 seconds remaining in the first quarter Cross stepped to the foul lire and arched the ball through the hoop. Then he went oh to set a new mark.HITS 300 Cross also became the first South Penn player in history to hit the 300 mark in scoring. Going into last night’s contest with 292 points in 13 games,' Tom added’ another 13 points to run his total to 305 for the league season. He averaged about 21.7 points per game for the season. . •Cross has a total of 446 points for the full season with an average of 22.3 points per season.It was a nip/and tuck affair through the first I period with Waynesboro taking the lead after about four minutes arid moving to a six point lead with about three minutes to go. Carroll Hartle, Larry Provard and Cross set the pace.EARLY LEADAt the quarter Waynesboro had a 19-14 advantage.Sterling Banta’s championship aspirants wiped out the deficit and went ahead 22-21 midway through the period.Cross posted his 300th point of the season in the last 30 seconds of the second period.Hershey maintained its lead through the third and fourth periods, with Snyder, Capitani and Tancredi sparking'the attack.Cross was handcuffed by the tight defensive^play of the Banta-men collecting only 13 points.
