Crowd Was With the Women Who Played a Good All Around Game.IDespite the fact that they lined-up | against a strong aggregation of ball players, the Chicago Bloomer Girls team put up a splendid exhibition of the national game and were beaten out by the close score of 2 to 0 yesterday afternoon at the Bolton street park.in the most of games of tbis kind the men are naturally inclined to let the women win the game, or in other words to play them close enough to make the contest interesting, but in the game yesterday afternoon no favoritism was shown them, the Savannah pitcher, especially, being anxious to display his skill, even if it was against an aggregation of females. At no stage of the game did he let tip his speed and curves, but fired the sphere over the plate the same as if his batters had been men and a thousand dollars up on the result. Not only was the pitcher selfish, but the whole team behind him, and they were good ball players, too, put an interest in the contest, that they couldhardly show in facing an aggregation of star performers of their own sex. They were out to win and they did it but by such a margin that no credit is due them as ball players and exponents of the national game.At no stage of the game did the men outplay the women, especially in the field, the pitcher alone being responsible for their defeat. He had speed and curves to use, and did not fail to “show off,” but even at that was batted freely, and it was only by timely hitting in two innings that they won out.At the beginning of the fourth inning umpires were changed, as it was apparent even to the most ignorant spectators that the first judge of the game discriminated for the men. A howl went up against his decisions by the crowd and another one, not much better, took his place. In but two innings did the local team score, the others being shut-outs, but two or chree men going as far as second base. For the women, Mary Nelson, the pitcher, put up an excellent game. She had speed to burn and good judgment at all stages of the game, and sailed the ball across the plate at such a clip that several of the local boys found holes in their bat and retired on three strikes. Mary Sun, at second base, is another good player, and besides catching several fly balls, shut out a number of players on throws from home ba?e, The other members of the' team put up an all round good game, and it was more by luck than superior playing that the male team triumphed. The teams lined up as follows;Bloomer Girls. In the fifth inning the bloomer girls changed pitchers, Myers relieving Maude Nelson, who took his place at third base. Several double plays were made during the game, the women having decidedly the best of the men in fielding and handling the ball.Quite a crowd attended the game, and while there was lots of guyingK \ i f f V* r\ r\1 o iro ra a f hnth
