A Frightening ExperienceWhen Olds didn’t regain consciousness right away, Lou bent over him and started shouting at him.“Con! Con!” he yelled in desperation. Thoughts of another tragic night in the ring years ago mast have raced through Lou’s mind as he frantically aought to bring Olds back to consciousness.Olds finally came to several seconds later, but it probably was Lou’s most frightening experience as a boxing referee. It undoubtedly shook him from his teeth to his toes, being the sensative guy that he was.Still the love of boxing remained in Lou’s blood and whenever Stan’s Boxing Club held an amateur boxing card he inevitably was one of the referees. And he was probably a good referee for amateur matches because he was ultra-cautious. At the first sign that one of the fighters was hurt, Lou was quick to jump in and stop the fight right now.Lou also served as director of the Intermountain AAU boxing tourney the past two years and was scheduled to direct it again this year.It would seem to this writer as if a ‘‘Lou Petro Memorial Trophy should be set up in Lou’s memory and awarded to the fighter who is voted the outstanding performer in the AAU Intermountain championships each year. What better way to peipetuate the memory of Lou Petro, a friend of boxing and a great humanitarian.
