Henry Jones, one-time welterweight wrestling champion,! promoted many of Lou Petro’s fights back in the days when boxing matches were held at Park Ro-She. Over the years a great fondness developed between Lou and Henry.In recent months, Henry has been bed-ridden and has been to and out of the hospital. And over the past several months Lou never forgot his old frend Henry. It's easy to forget a friend and not make the effort that’s necessary to visit him frequently when he becomes sick and bed-ridden.But Lou never forgot Henry and frequently visited him and cheered him up during the “tough days” Henry has experienced to recent months. Lou was that kind erf guy.Ring Tragedy Hit Lou HardThere were those boxing experts who felt Petro could’ve made it big as a professional fighter, but tragedy stalked him to the ring, too, and brought an abrupt end to his boxing career.One night to a fight at Park Ro-She, Petro knocked oat Ms opponent who never regained consciousness and died before he reached a hospital,Lou never fought again.“It’s too bad Lou had that unfortunate experience in the ring,” Orval Singleton, said the other day. “He had a great potential as a fighter. He was aggressive, fast and a tricky box-•r. And he had a punch like the kick of a mule.”Vem Damico, a close friend of Petro’s said Lou never forgot the family of the young man who was fatally injured to that fight years ago at Park Ro-She.“I/tu did everything he could for the guy’s family financially and otherwise,” Vern said the other day.That Lou was never able tc shake that -tragic ring accident from the back of his mind was vividly brought to the attention of this writer down at the old Provo High gym several years ago. Lou was refereeing a fight involving Oon Olds and some other scrapper whose name escapes me.Olds ran into a solid right to the face and he hit the deck as if he had been pole-axed. Olds was still flat on his back and blood started to gush from his mouth and nose as Lou finished his count of 10
