Cowboys CLou Petro—Champion of the UnderdogLou Petro was tiger-Iikc and a savage puncher in the ring. Outside the ring, he was a highly-sensitive champion of the underdog and the underprivileged. He had a kind-hearted gentleness that belied his aggressiveness as a young and promisingLOU PETROring warrior back in the dayswhen boxing was a far more noble sport than it is today.A lot of people were touched by Lou’s charitable spirit and humanitarian ways and for that reason alone many tears were shed by many people in the Provo area and scores more had that empty feeling in their hearts, as word of his death spread across Utah Valley.Among those badly shaken by Lou’s sudden pnd unexpected death was Stan Chynowetli, manager of Stan’s Boxing Club in Orem.The bushy-browed Petro had been associated with Stan and his boxing club ever since H was organized several years ago. Lou had served as a referee for most of the fight cards sponsored by Stan’s Boxing Club.
