There were teams from across the prairie provinces, as well as Ontario and the U.S.Russell’s opening game was a 4-0 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings and on Friday, the Rams met the Waconia Wildcats from Minnesota. Russell won the game 7-1.On Saturday the boys finished round robin play with a 6-2 win over the South East Rangers from Moosomin.Russell came out of their pool in first place so crossedover to play MacDonald, in a semi final game. Russell won this game with a score of 5 - 3. Brayden Cullum scored twice with Jayce Hawryluk, Zack Wyss and Reece Ciprick adding singles. Netminder Parker Melnyk played very well and helped keep us in the game, especially when the team got in to some penalty trouble in the third period and were two men short for a such a long time.Sunday brought the two top teams together in the final... Russell vs Elkhorn. Being huge league rivals, this game took on a double meaning. Russell and Elkhorn have a history and usually bring out the best in the each other. Russell had a record of two wins, one loss and a tie with Elkhorn so far this year.The boys came to play this game from the drop of the puck. Hawryluk started the scoring off, 1:24 minutes in to the game and the team never looked back. Rylee Zimmer scored four times, with Hawryluk and Landyn Cochrane both netting two. Robert Wishart added a single.Assists were: Hawryluk(five), Cullum (two), Keating (two), Wishart (two) and Wyss and Turnbull each with one.
