•Razorback tennis teamfaces four-match weekEncouraged but realistic, Arkansas tennis coach Mike Patrick has a difficult assignment this week as the Hogs are scneduled to play Arizona Stale, Auburn and Michigan at Tempe, Ariz.. after a make-up match Wednesday at Tulsa.“I think we can compete with some of the good teams better than I originally thought,” Patrick said. “We have a couple of young players we can rebuild the program on. Donnie Wood and J.P. Mieny are playing very well. When we bring in a few more good players, we think they can really help us.”Wood will continue to play at No. 3 and Mieny at No. 5 when the Hogs tackle Arizona State Friday, Auburn Saturday and Michigan Sunday. Simon Robinson, who is nearly recovered from a strained knee, will play at No. 1 and Danny Granot will play No. 2. Mike Coleman will play No. 4 and Jeff Wright and Sylvano Simone will alternate at No. 6.“We want to look at Wright because he has practiced well” Patrick said. “We think Simon will start playing better when he puts less pressure on himself. He probably tried to bounce back too soon from the injury. He knew we needed him and he was trying too hard. Simon has the talent to compete at No. 1.”Patrick also has decided on a doubles lineup that leaves Robinson and Granot together. Wood and Coleman will pair at No. 2, with Mieny and Wright at No. 3.“I like our doubles teams against Oral Roberts,” Patrick said. “Those are probably the best pairings we can make. J.P. and Jeff really played well together.”Patrick, who inherited a depleted program, doesn’t regret tackling a schedule loaded with the elite. He is encouraged about the future.“It would have been easy to play aschedule that would have protectedour history of winning,” Patricksaid, “but recruits would ratherknow we are going to play a strongschedule every year. Our young guysbenefit from the competition and ithelps our recruiting. I sure wouldn’tchange anything about our schedule.
