Tech Leads State Meet; Kelley Paces SwimmersJames Madison University's Frances Kelley continued to lead the Duchesses effort during the second day of the Virginia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women swim meet here at JMU.Kelley, won the 400-yard individual medley and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly for the Duchesses on Friday evening, She placed second in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly on Thursday,The Duchesses also got a first place Friday from Maria Grosz in the 50-yard free style.The team scores after two days of competition had Virginia Tech in front by a wide margin over William Mary* 251-199. They were followed by Virginia Commonwealth (127), James Madison (104) and Old Dominion (74).The team scores in the small college competiton had Richmond leading with 239 points* followed by Sweet Briar (193) and Mary Washington (166).Terri Estes set one of three records and Angela Vergara added another first place Friday night as Virginia Tech continued to dominate the Virginia AIAW-large college swimming meet.Estes set a record of 1:07.382 in the 1Q0-yard breaststroke and Vergara won the 200-yard butterflyOther records set were 1:10.103 in the 100-yard backstroke by Lasura Schwarz of William Mary and 1:57.163 by Jenny Tastnall of William Mary in the 200-yard freestyle.Trailing Tech and WM were VCU with 127 points* James Madison with 104 and Old Dominion with 74.The Richmond records were 1:46.734 in the 200-yard freestyle relay; 4.58.088 by Ingrid Brustad in the 400-yard individual medley; 2:14.974 by Brustad in the 200-yard butterfly; 26.068 by Suzanne Lally in the 50-yard freestyle and 4:24.579 in the 400-yard medley relay.Trailing the leaders were Randolph-Macon Woman's College with 66 points, Mary Baldwin with 25, Ferrum with 17 and Roanoke with 11.
