Beckv Chewningwas able to play despite two bad ankles. She didn't start, but came in late in the first period.Amber Anderson collected her first assist of the afternoon when Corrina Alvidrez scored a basket to giveShatter an early 2-1 edge.Later, Anderson stole the ball and scored a free (hrow after being fouled on her approach to the basket.Taft tied the contest and then ( hewning made a steal and assistedBeth Zachary for a basket.wLeading 5-3, Shafter was out scored 6-2 in the rest of the firstquarter. Taft led 9-7.The tough Taft team completely dominated the first half. However, they were only able to build a 13-7 lead before Alvidrez scored again.Anderson made another steal and went all the way to end the half down15-11.Chewning scored 4 points and Lisa Ortiz 2 to close the gap by a score of19-17 as the third period flew by. Karina Ochoa collected three foulsin the first 4 minutes of the game.Consequently, head coaches Rod Creekbaum and Kenny Alan pulled her from the game so she could start the fourth.Ochoa grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to tie the game at 19 to begin the fourth period.Then Ochoa scored a free throw to put Shafter ahead by 1, 20-19.It only took 3:00 of the fourth before Ochoa fouled out.Anderson assisted Ortiz to give Shafter their biggest lead of the game, 22-19.Taft responded with a 6-0 run. With 2:36 remaining, Chewning fouled out.With 1:09 left, Zachary hit a bonus free throw. Down 25-23, Tonya Thornton made two free throws to send the game to overtime.Taft out scored the Lady Colonels 6-0 in overtime for the victory.Ortiz led the Colonels with 6 points, and Alvidrez had 4.
