It was erected next to the railroad tracks, at Burr Jones Field, on East Washington Avenue. A walkway ran down the center of the rinkhouse, allowing two sheets Of ice to be made at a time. A small kitchen and an enclosed viewing room were at one end of the building. A fund-raising campaign (the selling of • debentures) by the membership resulted in tine instal-k lation of refrigeration equipment and an oil furnace in the basement. Pipes were buried in sand in the rinkhouse for making and maintaining ice from December through March. Through the generosity of Mr. James Garver, a clubroom and new kitchen were built and attached to the original building. In 1958, the wooden walls were replaced with cement blocks. The roof of the original building was retained and the men’s locker room was added,Six Sheets of IceIn June of 1997, a new $1.2 million, six-sheet facility was constructed at William McFarland Park in McFarland, Wisconsin. It has indoor ice, with an air temperature of about 42 degrees, to help ensure athat look out onto the playing area- a TV/video lounge, refreshment dispensers, and men’s and women’s locker rooms. There is a large kitchen with a center preparation area, a walk-in cooler, and storage room. A 400-sq. ft. patio area, under a roof, looks out onto soccer fields and park land. The 15,800-sq. ft. clear-span area was constructed with_a cement floor, giving the area a multipurpose, year-round use.Members of the Madison Curling Club have a competitive tradition and have represented the club in many regional, national, and international curling competitions over the past 68 years. Our men’s, women’s, mixed, senior, and junior teams have won 46 state championships, 15 national championships, competed in 7 world championships, and the U.S. women’s team represented us in the 1998 Olympics.I.
