WHEN IT COMES time for the state junior hockey championships March 11-12 there will betwo Bonbright boys playing, but for different teams. The two boys, 11-year-old Chris and 16-year-old David, are sons of Mr. and Mrs. I. Wayland Bonbright III of Ross. Chris plays for the Marin Pee Wee team of boys aged 10 to 12. Since Marin’s junior hockey program doesn’t have a Midget division (14-16), David is forced to go across the bay to play for a Berkeley team. The problem came when Mr. and Mrs. Bonbright tried to figure how to see their boys compete when they were playing games on Sundays at different Northern California rinks.“We had to split it up,” explained Mrs. Bonbright. “I go to the games Chris’ Pee Wees play and my husband goes to the games in whichDavid plays.”The Marin Pee Wees and Berkeley Midgets clinched spots in the state championships at Los Angeles at the same time. “They were both 5:20 games (Feb. 13),” said Shirley Bonbright, who was watching Chris and his teammates defeat a team from San Francisco, 7-2, at Raydine’s ice rink in Corte Madera. At that time, the boys’ father, a manager of industrial relations for Pacific Gas and Electric Co., was watching David and the Midgets beat Sun Valley (a community near Walnut Creek), 4-2, at the Berkeley team’s home rink. But if the Bonbrights had their problems trying to see their two youngsters play, imagine the plight of Mr. and Mrs. Paul O’Hara of Santa Venetia. They had four sons — John, Kevin, Tim and Mike — playing in three divisions for Marin’s teams in the Norcal hockey association.
