COUNTRY CLUB SEASONWILL* Another 24 hours of warm weather and the demand for sand paper to clean up'rusted golO-stieks will bullthe market!Before the sun had fairly melted the ice on down-town sidewalks, the grounds committee of the Country Club George P. Bliss and 0. 1-1. Binus, held a meeting yesterday to take cocni'/.ance of the condition of the links. Carl Wise is a member of the committee but he i? headed Tor tne Bermudas, hence was absent. The club will open its first nine-hole course this season, but it is feared there will be delay in having the 'grounds in- satisfactory condir.ion-de-lay unavoidable because it was necessary to plow up a large portion of the links and plant it with clover seed. Until the ground settles, it will be out of the question for people who, wear French heels to negotiate the“through green.” #Others, more sturdy in their enthusiasm. will begin to visit the links by the first of March, if present weather conditions hold. Harry Collls, French Lick, the English professional will come here for several weens at tne opening of the season and whip into shape much new material, beside taking kinks out of the “form” of some of those who played not_ wisely but too hard last season. A silver loving, cup, provided by Hoi B. Smith, will he offered in a tournament to be held as soon as there is a possibility offixing a date when the game will nothave to be played in galoshes and rammats.The house committee is now pur. phasing new furnishings for the clubhouse* It is composed of Capt. W. H. Snider, w. E. Haney, and Seth M.Kelsey. A great deal of money hasseen epended, but the finance commit-:oe, Dr. Ml A. Jordan, Walter Uhl, W. D. Murdock and V. S- Wise, report tiie club treasury in excellent condition. The membership committee expects to •ncrease the enrollment to- the^ limit placed on active members before fine weather is fairly- settled. Wise and 'Dr. M.A. Jordan.The club has been closed during the winter, but many have visited it, walking across the ice, which at Cedar Island was frozen almost to the bottom. No winter golf was played, the enthusiasm even of the most frantic golf-fiends in this latitude not being equal to the exMlcration of chasing a red “gutty” over a ten-acre field ot snow. The club will nave a grillroom in which light refreshments will be always available, and more elaborate repasts will be within the scope of the chef when warning is given. A-telephone will be put in the club-house this spring, and the building wiil benighted by electricity, furnished free by the Ft Wayne Wa-bash Valley Gas Co.
