It was a nail-biter all the way and earned a spot in Ford City’s “House of Thrills list of outstanding gamesThe Sabers exacted revenge for the 65-63 defeat handed them by Richland in their first meeting on the Rams’ floor. When the teams met at Richland, the Sabers led 32-22at halftime but last night Ford City only had a 28-27 lead at halftime.Ford City took a 10-2 lead after only 3:16 of play, but Richland outscored Ford City 8-7 during the remainder of thequarter, cutting the Saber lead to 17-10 Richland outscored Ford City 17-i: in the second period and took the lead 27-26 with 49 seconds remaining, but two foul shots by Dave I^erner gave Ford City its one-point edge at halftime Ford City moved ahead in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 17-14 and leading 45-41 at the start of the final period. A foul and technical were called on a Richland player and Jim Minarcin made two out of three foul shots. Minarcin scored a field goal to make the score 63-55 with 37 seconds remaining Chris Hudac scored a field goal for Richland and Andy Charney a foul goal for Ford City to end the scoring“We played a good game in spots and had to come back twice to win,” Saber coach Mark Fruehan summarized. ‘‘Bernie Miloser came through with the long passes near the end to help win it. We practiced those passes the night before,” Fruehan said.Closeness of the game was reflected in the rebounding as each team had 23. Jim Minarcin led with nine rebounds and Jim Mikula had eight. Del Miller led Richland with six rebounds.Top scorer was Jim Minarcin for Ford City with 22. Hudac with 21 and Keith Kuhn with 20 led Richland.In field goal shooting Ford City made 27 out of 52 for 52 per cent while Richland made 22 out of 57 for 39 per cent.
