In the 171-pound class. Delavan-Dar-ien’s Russ Gleiter fell in the finals to Scott Samuels of Mukwan-ago. 9-7, but will battle at state as a sectional runner-up.The other Stoughton champions were D.C. Lewis at 112 pounds and Tony Ponti at 189 pounds Lewis scored a takedown with only two seconds left in his match to shock previously unbeaten Cort Shane of Salem Central, 6-5. Ponti, despite having only a 19-8 record on the year, captured the 189-pound class with a 14-8 win over Rob Fontaine of Bradford. Fontaine was then pinned byChris Witt of Beloit in the second place match. Whitt is now 28-4 for the year.For Parker, three wrestlers had to settle for third place and a step away from the state meet. Darin Cavey at 103 pounds, Griffin at 125 and Tom Gonzalez. Cavey had the best chance at a trip to state but the Parker junior lost in a wrestleback for second place to Jon Strecker of Tremper 7-2.However, it was Griffin, who according to Cramer, got the rug pulled out from under him.
