STORRS, Conn. — Rodney Monroe scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half, becoming North Carolina’s State career scoring leader, and Connecticut missed two shots in the final three seconds as the Wolfpack beat the Huskies 60-59 Saturday.Chris Corchiani hit both ends of a one-and-one with 20 seconds left, giving the Wolfpack the 60-59 lead. Corchiani fouled Chris Smith with 4.6 seconds left, but the Huskies weren’t in the bonus yet so they got the ball out of bounds.Smith missed a 15-foot shot with three seconds left and Scott Burrell’s tip-in attempt bounced off the back of the rim and out.The Wolfpack (15-7), who scored 10 points under their previous low this season, are the first non-Big East team to beat the Huskies (15-8) at Storrs in the 55 games since Connecticut joined the conference. It is only N.C. State’s fourth road win in 11 tries.Monroe’s 24 points give him 2,326 for his career, moving him past David Thompson on the all-time Wolfpack scoring list. Thompson scored 2.309 points during 1973-75.The 6-foot-3 Hagerstown, Md., senior also moved into third place on the Atlantic Coast Conference’s all-time scoring list ahead of Thompson, formerVirginia star Jeff Lamp and former Duke All-American Mike Gminski with 2,326 points. Lying ahead on the list is former Blue Devil All-American Johnny Dawkins with 2,556.Wake Forest’s Dickie Hemric is the ACC’s all-time scoring leader with 2,587 points, although he started his career before the formation of the league.Tom Gugliotta had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Wolfpack and Kevin Thompson added 10 points. Corchiani had eights assists to move into second place on the NCAA career list, 13 behind the 960 Sherman Douglas had at Syracuse.Burrell had 19 points to lead the Huskies and Chris Smith had 14.
