The kids who do notPharos-Tribune Staff ReportMERRILLVILLE — It wasn’t easy, but two of the area's premier wrestlers,Logansport’s Brad Graves and Winamac’s Chad Compton, were able to advance to the state finals Saturday.; Graves finished fourth in the 125-pound ' class while Compton was third at 135.Three other area wrestlers, Shane Foerg (Winamac, 119), Kullen Day (Winamac, 171) and Ken Holmes (Lewis Cass, heavyweight) lost in their first-round matches of the Merrillville Semistate.Graves won his first match over AndyOwens of Penn, 20-4, then lost his next two by decision.Compton pinned Ken Kobek of South Bend St. Joseph and Jamie Ham of Hammond Gavit before losing to Chesterton’s Dan Fagerstrom, the eventual champion, 13-1. Compton rebounded to defeat Kevin Downey of South Bend Clay, 11-5, in his final match.The jump in competition from the regional to the semistate was a big one, Logansport coach Al Thomas said.“It was very tough,” he said. “None of the boys (from the area) there realized .the strength of the people they wrestled.
